St. Patrick’s Day is a fun holiday for me and many others; for me, part of the reason I like the day is because I finally get to wear my ridiculously green Guinness polo shirt that I bought the last time I visited the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin. It’s not the kind of shirt you can really wear on many other days. I’ve already written one post about how people celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in the United States, so this is post number two on the subject on this particular blog. I found it fascinating that St. Patrick’s Day seemed to be a bigger deal in the United States than in Ireland, the country that the day is meant to celebrate.
The reason for this post is that I created a separate post for a St. Patrick’s Day limerick at Mixminder, our elementary school teaching blog, but the real version of the limerick as I originally wrote it had beer in the poem. I of course like it better with the part about the beer, but it’s not the sort of thing you might wantto tack onto the wall of an elementary school classroom, so I made a non-beer version over there and decided to upload the beer version here. I figured, why not? The more limericks the better!
At any rate, here is the poem… you can click on it to get a larger JPG image of the limerick, or you can download the PDF version here. Either way, I hope that you have a wonderful St. Patrick’s Day!
And by the way… don’t forget to wear green!!
